Saratoga Springs, NY:
Greetings from Skidmore College, where I’m attending and teaching at the 31st annual International Women’s Writing Guild - Remember the Magic Conference. On Friday, the news of Tim Russert’s spread here like wildfire.
Last week, when I voiced my exasperation at the way candidate Hillary Clinton was treated by the media, most notably MSNBC, I included Tim Russert in the trio of offenders. Now, six days later, the 58 year old news superstar is dead. The sudden fatal heart attack occurred while Russert (born May 7, 1950-no birth time) in Buffalo, NY was recording voice-overs at NBC in Washington for Meet the Press.
Without a birth time, it is difficult to precisely analyze what indicators there were for the kind of massive heart attack that felled Russert, but a quick look at his chart reveals transiting Uranus about to station exactly opposite his Mars at 22 Virgo, (which interestingly, is the same degree of Barack Obama’s Mars). One of Uranus’ key words is “sudden”, another is “shocking”.
Russert’s abrupt departure has set the political/media world on its ear and must be especially devastating for his family and his elderly father whom he adored and wrote about in Big Russ and Me in 2004.
Election Day will not be the same without him. His death is especially poignant as it came on the heels of the 4th annual Conference for Media Reform in Minneapolis. Please have a look at what Bill Moyers had to say regarding the mainstream media’s role in the erosion of our democracy.
In this astrologically busy week, two other stories caught my eye. Both involve the environment in some way. The first is about the mounting garbage problem in Naples Italy and the agreement to ship refuse daily to Hamburg for the time being. The second, is about the disappearance of salmon in our seas, due to over-fishing and over eating.
Pluto retrogrades back into Sagittarius this week for five months. It will be interesting to see how the Lord of the Underworld will punctuate his 13 year journey in Jupiter’s domain. Will there be a fair election?

ARIES: The wild ride of Gemini month ’08 continues this week with the probability of some new and exciting installments in the romantic, creative, and communal aspects of your life and the challenge is how to enjoy it to the hilt without wasting yourself in the process. Since chaperones bore you to death, the only other option is to have a buddy you like and trust help out with a reality check at least twice during this sequence to make sure you haven’t gone over the top all together. All kidding aside, this joy ride can and should be very worthwhile.
TAURUS: This week, your ruling planet, Venus, is alive and well and very active with the outer planets, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto, also known as the Gods of Change. It may be time to revisit and conquer some two-legged demons in your past and through the power of your intellect make peace with them once and for all so that you may finally get beyond your personal glass ceiling. The Venus and Neptune alignment in your money/career houses on the 13th is especially encouraging. Revisit a previously abandoned dream and go for it!
GEMINI: Both you and a romantic interest (or one of your kids) are in what feels like the spin cycle of a very wild washing machine. And while it’s your inclination to enjoy the ride, the bumps aren’t always fun. Keep in mind that your ruling planet, Mercury, is in reverse through June 19th and that it’s best to not react to any of the crazy goings on as if the “determinations” are final-they are not. Venus enters your 2nd house of income on the 18th and finances will begin to improve and stabilize.
CANCER: If you’ve needed more sleep than seems reasonable in the past few days, don’t worry about it. The abundance of activity in your hidden but very psychic 12th house requires a tremendous amount of processing and the only place to do it well is in a dream state. This will continue through much of the week, but will begin to let up when Venus enters your sign on the 18th. Take time to spruce up and look your best- your social calendar is about to fill up big time.
LEO: The abundance of air planets adds volumes to your confidence and while that feels sooo good, it would be that much better if you could display as little of your ego as possible. Take your cues from the very wise Barack Obama: In victory, he displayed a noble restraint which added to his stature enormously. No one is suggesting that you not be warm, but don’t allow yourself to get carried away at this point. There are some eclipses coming up this Summer which could “correct” any inflation on your part if you catch my drift.
VIRGO: On the 13th the alignment of air planets in your money houses could gracefully fix a problem that you thought was unfixable and the correction couldn’t come at a better time. These months have been difficult and with Saturn breathing down your throat for the foreseeable future, there’s no real let up in sight. BUT- do remember that Saturn brings you what you have earned. Keep your nose to the grindstone and refrain from wasting energy on complaining. Saturn keeps his word and you will be duly rewarded.
LIBRA: Like your Taurus counterpart, your ruling planet Venus, is extremely active and meeting up with the rulers of your 5th 6th and 2nd houses of your horoscope. If you put all of that symbolism together in one sentence - you could say that a creative/romantic spark finds a place in your day to day schedule which leads to a powerful and possibly life-changing move regarding finance. The story continues to unfold as Venus enters your 10th (career) house on the 18th when a female appears who will further your professional success.
SCORPIO: Knowing who to trust and when has never been more important. The build-up of chatty Gemini planets in your 8th house of other people’s money will amp up the volume on several negotiations in the works. As a rule, your silence is golden but now you may need to talk things out with a trusted counselor or write things down on paper and have those conversations with yourself. Venus enters your 9th house on the 18th bringing beauty, love, and/or money from a distant shore.
SAGITTARIUS: The week begins with five planets in air signs that “fan your flame” to higher heights, but instead of acting out to appoint that encourages onlookers to grab the nearest fire extinguisher to calm you down, consider voluntarily focusing your energy and inspiration on others who need it. These are the days for you to achieve super-stardom by serving others. Nothing is more rewarding than that.
CAPRICORN: As a rule you have no regard and little patience for anything airy-fairy and tend to be dismissive of petty gossip and locker-room small talk. But it is that very pedestrian chatter that could inspire your next move. Spending some time with the “little people” and getting down and dirty (so to speak) is not only a welcome diversion, but you very well may pick up a piece of an important puzzle that has eluded you for a long time. Venus enters your 7th house of partnerships on the 18th, bringing a relationship to the fore.
AQUARIUS: Your sense of well-being and most of your support (and there’s lots of it this week) comes by way of kids, a romantic interest-or two, and/or creative outlets that you’ve put on the back burner for waaay too long. Seriously, it’s time to dust off that novel you began to explore many moons ago, the painting you abandoned, the music you shelved or any of those hobbies you thought to be wasteful of your time, and immerse yourself in joyful play. For now, recreation of all kinds is your path to enlightenment and inner peace.
PISCES: Though you may be moved to be quiet, the activity around you-especially in the home is far from it. But your impulse to say less and do more is right on the money-both literally and figuratively. Be the sensitive and wise observer that you know how to be and refrain from reacting when it seems that a partner or someone very close seems to go back on their word. This is a temporary lapse in judgment that you can and should point out to them- but only in private.
